Purity culture always kind of grated on me when I was younger and single, especially the whole True Love Waits Chris West thing and even how Theology of the Body was sometimes pushed.

I get it, it’s good, but if you keep hammering one sin all the time, what fills your head? That sin! I always felt like the focus should be more on the Eucharist and the sacraments.

I'm a bit confused by this - " Sex outside of marriage—especially serial sex outside of marriage—is a mortal sin."

While grave matter, premarital sex isn't always a mortal sin (for instance, it may not be for someone who was raised in a completely secular environment). And even if it was always mortal sin, why would the number of instances matter? In theory one instance is mortal sin and enough to "earn Hell."

Sexual sin is absolutely serious and Christians need to know that. But remember Jesus told us that a man who looks upon a woman with lust has already committed adultery in his heart. The standard is so much higher than "promiscuity."

Furthermore, we must remember that "For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift." Atonement cultivates virtue but does not earn us a place in Heaven. We gain that through the completely unmerited gift of God's grace.
