Sometimes Catholic Pat says things with which I do not agree.

Today is not one of those days.

We need more St Jerome’s and St John Chrysostom’s on the frontlines. ❤️‍🔥

The Church isn't full of hypocrites. We have plenty of room for more!

"There is a certain type of Catholicism that has existed for the last 75 years or so."

The history of the Church did not start at Vatican II. Vatican II was reacting to some very real issues in the Church. It only takes reading just a little of the Church fathers to realize our Church mess is very similar to the mess of the Church from the very beginning. Ironically I have found myself encouraging progressive leaning people in the Church to not make 1962 some radical departure from the past either, but see the continuity of the Church as a whole. Also, some of highest per capita rates of ordination self identified liberal priests came before Vatican II or just around when it started to be implemented, not after.

Even if I could crawl into the head of the Father you're accusing of heresy and discover you're correct, there's all sorts of both laity and clerics who hold similar views. One "ah" hardly changes the wide variety within the Church. For the most part, liberal leaning Christians who struggle with the whole of the faith are the weak in faith that we are to be patient with. We're never going to be without them. The Church today is the Church yesterday is the Church tomorrow, at least when it comes to the less than orthodox.

75 years ago is before Vatican II.

This post is not about Vatican II

Then, gently, what is it about? We are not ever going to be a perfect Church here on earth with even priests who all orthodox.

It is about priests who see the Church as a tool to advance liberalism

Got whiplash reading this post. You can feel the anger and hatred in your writing and it’s not nice.

“To call it a heresy is to understate its depravity”

“This error…”

Calling “beige Catholicism” “non serviam”, a phrase attributed to the devil.

“It’s disgusting”

“We remember the names of heretics…”

Oh, that’s not hatred. Those are just strongly-worded statements and accusations that make you feel uncomfortable because it’s not nice.

“Hatred of the neighbor is a sin when one deliberately wishes him evil. Hatred of the neighbor is a grave sin when one deliberately desires him grave harm.” - CCC 2303

I think we’re talking past each other.

I’m not using “hatred” in the strict sense from the Catechism of the Catholic Church or claiming the author is willing harm. I’m just pointing out the clear contempt in the language, words like “depravity” and “disgusting.”

Even if that’s not formal hatred, it still falls short of Christian charity in how people are being spoken about.

So my point is about tone, not technical definitions.

So even if it’s not actual “hatred”, you still get to assume his intent and use that word, because you find the vibes to be icky?

What is this expectation that people be “nice”? It feels very Stepford Wives.
